The 2021 Garden - Phase 5

All thinned out.  One seedling per cell.  The plants are at 99% now since there appears to be some movement in the cells previously thought to be empty.

Forty of these seedlings will have the privilege of living their lives in my garden.

Close Call #4

My suspicions about there being more to my car problem than just a simple battery replacement proved to be real.  During some of my test runs, the car again stalled out.  An appointment was made to go to the dealer and it was discovered that a faulty alternator was the culprit.  The original TrueStart battery was probably still good; it just needed to be charged.  So a new alternator was installed as well as some other much needed maintenance.  The car is as good as new and it's ready for another 100K (see post of 10/24/2020).

The work was going to take a while, so I took their shuttle home and then another back to the dealer.  So because I was in a vehicle with two different drivers (first time I was in a car with anyone in a year) and the mechanic was in and out of my car, I am starting Self Isolation #4.  The one from the guy who jumped my car is now at 13 days.

Addendum to the previous post:

When I returned home the battery problem persisted; the car would not start.  I assumed it was the battery.  The battery I had was a Toyota "TrueStart" which was a bit of a misnomer.  I figured I had three options.  1) locate a mechanic who would do house calls and determine the problem for me.  2) have the car towed to a garage where again the problem would be analyzed.  3) if the battery was the problem, perhaps I could buy one online.  Sure enough it was possible.  So I ordered one on Amazon.  An OPTIMA battery.  The weight was 31 pounds which was 3 pounds less than the snow blower I recently bought online.  The website also determined if the battery was compatible for my Toyota.  It was.  It finally arrived two days ago and I replaced the old battery.  And it worked!  The battery was a bit expensive but I did not pay for any mechanic's labor nor shipping (Amazon Prime!).

Even though it worked, the fact that the TrueStart was only installed just 1 year and 9 months ago makes me wonder if the problem is only the battery.  So I will be taking test runs with the car around my neighborhood before heading out on a long trip.  Yesterday and today were successful test runs.  If all goes well, I will chance a long trip to the ShopRite early next week and cross my fingers.

Close Call #3

Well, today was day 14 since my encounter with the cable repair man.  So I think I avoided any infection from him.

It is also day 8 since I had to get my 15 year old car jumped.  I was at a ShopRite and I was able to get a jump from some old guy in a truck.  He wasn't wearing a mask but we stayed apart while I connected the cables and got my car running.  I did get close enough to give him a very thankful elbow bump.  I usually always give a jump to someone when requested so this reciprocation was appreciated.

Baseball Trivia - 3

Q: In 1938, Johnny Vander Meer of the Cincinnati Reds threw back-to-back no-hitters.  No one has ever been able to match that feat.  The closest came nine years later when a teammate (above) came within two outs of the goal.  Who was he?

Milestone #5

I just finished reading 4 3 2 1 by Paul Auster.  It is the longest book I have ever read (no, I never read War and Peace).  I completed the 866 pages in 12 days.

Works Like A Dream

Made the first pass on the driveway at 8 this morning.  The SnoJoe is awesome.  And I made a narrow path around the house so the PSE&G guy can read the meter tomorrow.  I'll make the second pass in the early evening so I can use the headlight.  I finished up and went into the house for more coffee.  My back and my whole body felt like I just woke up!

P.S. No sign of the rona yet - day 4.
